Our Allotment

At Wyborne, we are fortunate to have several allotment beds purely for growing and nurturing vegetables. Each year group has an allocated allotment bed with seeds to plant, water and eventually harvest. They have the opportunity to eat what they grow with the potential to share their products with the local community.

The allotments form part of our outdoor area, which also includes an outdoor classroom and sensory garden. Wyborne has a bespoke scheme outlining how this outdoor area should be used which links creatively to Science and Geography. The area supports our Science curriculum through our study of Plants, Seasons and Animals, including Humans and Living things and their habitats. It enables children to view and understand creative science in action and also to practise the key geographical skills expected throughout their primary education, which includes fieldwork and human and physical geography.

At Wyborne, we are keen to encourage involvement and awareness of the world and its natural environment. This outdoor area includes natural conservation (compost beds) and habitats for wildlife with the sensory garden also planted with bees and butterflies in mind.

Gardening and spending time outdoors promotes a healthy mind and body. Each child has the opportunity to engage in this wonderful resource on a regular basis.
