Year 6 Brick Project
Wyborne Primary School Year 6 pupils were challenged to design a brick face to symbolise diversity and what diversity means to them. In keeping with this theme, each brick, although similar in size and construction, is hand-built and therefore slightly different. Continuing this subtle variation, four different types of clay were used and although modelled on the size of a regular brick, they stand unconventionally on the face that is usually seen in walls. | ![]() |
![]() | In collaboration with their pottery teacher, each child was given a brick on which to transfer and realise their design. Each brick is in fact a container. Inside each brick the children have written a message that they felt they wanted to share with the world and encapsulates their feelings regarding diversity. The messages vary in length and complexity but like the bricks in a wall combine to send a very powerful message. The children chosen to take part in this project are representative of our school and community. It is astounding how astute the children have been and how deeply they have considered this task – let their messages be a lesson to us all. |
